Julie Palakovich Carr
State Delegate for Rockville and Gaithersburg (District 17)
Experienced Elected Official
Julie has served the residents of Rockville and Gaithersburg as a State Delegate since 2019. She previously served two terms on the Rockville City Council. Julie is one of the most productive Delegates, with more than 50 of the bills she sponsored becoming state law.
Progressive Democrat
Julie truly believes that the state legislature should look out for the interests of Marylanders. That’s why she has fought to close corporate tax loopholes, to provide a world-class education to every student, and to protect social safety nets for residents.
Union Member
Julie is a proud member of the Montgomery County Education Association, the local teacher’s union. She has substitute taught science in local public high schools since the spring of 2023.
Scientist
Julie is the only biologist with an advanced degree in the state legislature. With years of experience working at the interface of science and policy, she brings an analytical, fact-based approach to policymaking.
Bicyclist
Julie is an avid bicyclist who has ridden her bike on every road in Rockville—and lots of other parts of our state. She was the sponsor of Maryland’s flagship roadway safety law (Vision Zero), which sets a goal of no roadway fatalities.
